Eco Dev Seminar To Empower LI Business Owners

A panel discussion entitled “Economic Development and You: Best Practices and Bottom Lines” will take place on Friday, June 15, 2012 from 8 am until noon at the Crest Hollow Country Club, Woodbury. It promises to educate Long Island business owners as to how economic development agencies can help them remain competitive in a global business environment.

The morning will feature three 20-minute presentations made by representatives from Columbus, Ohio; Miami-Dade County, Florida; and site selection consultant Thomas Stringer of Ryan, a global tax services firm with the largest indirect tax practice in North America. The presentations will be followed by a question and answer session. Participation is by invitation only. Long Island Inc. is hosting the event, which will be moderated by Long Island Inc. President Michael Watt.

Watt ran the Long Island Partnership – an umbrella organization representing more than two dozen Long Island-based economic development agencies – from 2003 to 2007.

Long Island Business News Publisher John Kominicki will open the conference with his take on the current business climate on Long Island.


  • Organizers will invite owners of qualifying businesses (annual sales revenue greater than $5 million) and limit participation to 50.

  • Attendance is free, but by invitation only.

  • Attendees will arrive between 8 am and 8:30 am and network during that time. Panelists should also be on hand for networking.

  • The program will being at 8:30, with the moderator introducing the panel and explaining the agenda.

  • Each panelist will make his presentation, taking 20 minutes each. The discussion will conclude with Tom Stringer discussing New York State.

  • After a 15 minute break at 10 am, the panel and audience will re-group and the floor will be opened to questions. After an hour of Q&A, attendees will be encouraged to stay for one-on-one interaction with the out-of-state economic development representatives.
